      Admissions Process

The admissions process at Springhurst is ongoing during the school year. Open houses are scheduled in late autumn through winter. However, parents can schedule appointments to visit the school throughout the year. Applications may be submitted at any time, but to ensure consideration for the 2002-2003 school year they should be submitted no later than March 15, 2002.

Admission for Pre-Kindergarten students is based on information provided by parents and from an informal, activity-based interaction with Springhurst teachers. Admission for older students (ages five and up), is based on demonstrated need defined through individually administered educational assessment determining general intellectual ability and specific academic talent. Information provided by parents and interaction in Springhurst classrooms are also considered.

Please follow these steps to apply for enrollment:

  1. Complete the Application for Enrollment, Parent and Student Questionnaires, and Development Questionnaire in detail

  2. Parents of students applying for Primary and Intermediate classes (kindergarten through sixth grade) must have their child assessed to determine his or her educational needs. The assessment must include:

    • An individual test of intelligence (Wechsler Intelligence Scale, or equivalent)

    • and/or a professional diagnostic report indicating educational needs

Assessment may be obtained from psychologists who specialize in educational testing. We recommend using examiners experienced in assessment of gifted children.

  3. Parents of students applying for Primary and Intermediate classes (first through sixth grade) must submit samples of student work, school transcript or report card, and a letter of recommendation from a teacher.

  4. Submit the completed Application for Enrollment packet, professional report of assessment information (students in Primary and Intermediate only), current school information (students in Primary and Intermediate only) to:

    Seth! Leary, Director
    Springhurst
    10737 124th Avenue NE
    Kirkland WA 98033

  5. Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten applicants will take part in an informal assessment classroom visit to be scheduled individually.

  6. Primary and Intermediate students being considered for enrollment may be asked to attend a visit to the school. The school office will contact parents to make appointments if attendance is requested.

Completed application files will be reviewed by the Director. Please consider that space in this program is limited. Letters of acceptance will be mailed out in mid-March. Enrollment agreements and deposit fees must be returned to the school office no later than two weeks after notification of acceptance.
